PRIVATE HAROLD GEORGE THOMAS
3rd Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry
He was Born in Sellack in 1891
He was the brother of Private Green, mentioned earlier
In 1901, the family was living at Strangford, Sellack and his father was managing a fruit farm
In 1909 he joined the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry
In December 1914, he went to France with his regiment, arriving in the trenches in January 2015
On 24th May 1915 he was wounded in a German attack and brought back to hospital
On 26th May he died age 24 of Acute Lobar Pneumonia at Pembroke Dock Military Hospital, suggesting that he had probably been gassed in France
He is buried in the Pembroke Dock Military Cemetery maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission
His CGWC certificate of honour records he was the son of Christopher Thomas of Belle Vue Cottage, Strangford, Sellack
He is commemorated on the Sellack War Memorial
