Sellack Parish Council will be holding a small Armistice Day event on
Saturday 11th November, 2.15pm to 3.30pm at the Village Hall
We hope you can join us and share in remembrance of all who have served our country and the Commonwealth, from the Armed Forces community.
Come along and hear more about those local men who gave their lives in service, in WW1 and 2.
A two-minute silence will then be followed by a local Veteran and the Parish Council Chair laying wreaths at the memorial.
We will also be unveiling our first War Memorial commemorative plaque on a public footpath gate nearby (please bring your wellies if you’d like to join us for this).
The idea was prompted by reading the individual stories of the local men in the booklet ‘The Great War for civilisation 1914 – 1919. Commemorating The men of Sellack who died in the conflict’ by Bill Webb.
It is sobering to think about those young men leaving the green fields of Sellack and dying in foreign lands, in the service of their country. We wanted to find a way to link their memory back to our Sellack countryside and felt that placing memorial plaques along our public footpaths would be a fitting adjunct to our wonderfully kept war memorials at Picts Cross and the Church.
We hope that some of today’s residents of Sellack will sponsor the cost of a plaque and we will be providing more information about how you can do this.
Free tea and cake will be served at the end of the event.
