The Parish – Sellack Parish Council

Sellack Parish Council owns or is responsible for a number of ‘assets’ within the local community. If you spot an issue with any of these locations or items then please do get in touch with us via our contact page.

Backney Bridge Picnic Site

The Parish Council purchased this site from Herefordshire Council in 2018. We hold bi-annual volunteer days at the site and we also have a Working Group of local councillors and residents, that meet to discuss the protection and enhancement of the site.

War Memorial

Sellack’s War Memorial stands at Pict Cross and is tended by a local volunteer.

Each year, leading up to Remembrance Day, the Parish Council will lay a wreath on the memorial, on behalf of all Sellack parishioners.

We would like to thank our local volunteer for their time and dedication to the memorial and to preserving the memory of those we lost in combat in World War 1 and 2.

IMPORTANT – Please do not attempt to clean the war memorial. The stonework requires specialist cleaning and any attempt to clean it without specialist understanding, could result in permanent damage to the war memorial.

Defibrillator

The Parish Council is responsible for the defib found on the wall outside the village hall. The defib is registered with the British Heart Foundation Circuit, which means that when you call 999 with an emergency, they can direct you to the defib (if it is the nearest to you) and provide the code to access it.

Please do contact the Parish Clerk if you notice the defib is flashing as this could mean the battery or pads need to be replaced.

Whilst we are not responsible for our highways and footpaths, we do work closely with Herefordshire Council and Balfour Beatty to identify and address issues.

Public Rights of Way (PROW)

Your Parish Footpath Officer is Parish Councillor Mark Robinson. Mark provides an update to every Parish Council meeting and raises any issues with Herefordshire Council. Once furniture on PROW comes to the end of its life and is beyond simple repair, the Parish Council is working with landowners to replace items such as stiles with more accessible gate options (where possible). The Parish Council has now paid for six new gates to be installed on parish PROW in recent years, with Herefordshire Council providing grants for additional gates to be fitted in 2025-26.

Drainage Works

Have you noticed the drainage work going on across the parish over the last couple of years?

The parish council receives a grant from Herefordshire Council to arrange for a number of jobs to be carried out across the parish.

Work has taken place across a range of locations, including near Sellack Marsh, at Lough Pool and at the junction near Backney Bridge.

Drainage work can include cleaning out road culvert chambers, forming drainage drenches and more.

Grit Bins

If you become aware of any grit bins on our public roads in the parish running low on salt, please do let us know. The C1261 road running through Picts Cross and past the Lough Pool is gritted by Herefordshire Council and the bins located across the parish are replenished once a year (at the start of the winter period), but if you are aware of any stocks running low then please do let us know via our Contact page.
